Coastal Retreat

Location: Cockle Bay, Auckland

Clients: Jan & Sam

Architect: Zayd Ali, myUmbrella

Interior Designer: Anna Hill

This architectural coastal retreat was brought to life by Moore Quality Building in close collaboration with our clients Jan & Sam, architect Zayd Ali and interior designer Anna Hill, from early-stage planning through to final detailing.

Perched above the Hauraki Gulf, the home was crafted for low-maintenance luxury — featuring aluminium cladding, secret fixed timber veneer panelling, a fully integrated cedar sauna, 10kW solar panel system and solid stone flooring. Every element was considered for both long-term performance and modern coastal living.

Inside, the home flows effortlessly from open-plan living to a large ocean-facing kwila deck with multiple levels to entertain, dine and relax. Custom finishes also include a granite waterfall benchtop, expansive walk-in wardrobe, bespoke aluminium fascias, barges and spouting, recessed curtain tracks, ducted heat pump system with custom grills, recessed indirect led strips, total home automation (lights and blinds) plus a fully kitted billiards room and bar. Contemporary art also features throughout the home with display lighting that changes with the colour of the sun and time of day.

With floor-to-ceiling glazing and refined textures throughout, the result is a calm, contemporary sanctuary that balances everyday functionality with elevated design.

As high end home builders in East Auckland, MQB oversaw every stage of this build with exacting detail, transparency, and a commitment to delivering a flawless finish — a signature approach we bring to every residential project.
